Congratulations to 1st Place Winner from Holy Name of Mary
Elementary School: Enrico Rullo.
This year, Donna Tiqui Shebib Law will be sponsoring the
Third
Annual School Spelling Bee at Holy Name of Mary Elementary
School, located in Ancaster, Ontario. The Spelling Bee
will be held on Wednesday January 16, 2008. The top 3
winners will receive the following bursaries:
1st
Place: $500
2nd Place: $250
3rd Place: $125
Nationally sponsored by CanWest, the Canspell National Spelling
Bee is designed to give students a chance to challenge
themselves and have fun competing with their peers as they
strive to become more proficient spellers.
The
competition is divided into the following stages:
School and/or classroom Spelling Bees - TBA
Each school
determines two students as their representatives in the CanWest CanSpell
National Spelling Bee Program.
District Spelling Bees -- TBA
Hamilton - venue
to be announced. This year National Post will host a district bee
in Hamilton area as a qualifier for the GTA Regional in March
National Post
Greater Toronto Regional Spelling Bee - TBA
Toronto - venue
to be announced.
CanWest
CanSpell National Spelling Bee -- TBA
The Winner and
runner-Up from each Regional Bee will be flown out to Ottawa to
participate in the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee week and
events leading up to the live televised Bee on Saturday, April 14.
Scripps
National Spelling Bee - TBA
The Winner from
our Regional Spelling Bee will further compete in the Scripps National
Spelling Bee in Washington, DC.

Spelling Bee Objectives
The
objectives of the Spelling Bee are to:

Encourage students to explore and study the English language
and its roots;

Help
students to learn to spell quickly, accurately and with
comprehension;

Promote students knowledge of proper word usage; encourage
students to strive for excellence in spelling skills and
other educational pursuits; and
-
Provide an opportunity for students to meet and compete with
their peers in an atmosphere of fun and friendship.

with the Special Olympics Ontario, the Ancaster Youth Soccer Club is
creating a Youth Special Needs Special Olympics Soccer Team; The
Ancaster Phoenix.
It is
available to all skill levels U4 – U14 years old mixed. Standing behind
our clubs Mission Statement that “We are a community soccer club
providing the people of Ancaster and the surrounding area with the
highest quality soccer experience spanning all ages and skill levels”.
